Esteemed British-Bangladeshi accountant, Mr. Abul Nurujjaman of Taj Accountants London, has recently been bestowed with the distinguished 'Freeman of the City of London' Award.
Mr. Nurujjaman, who also serves as the Director-General of the British Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BBCCI), was awarded this prestigious accolade in recognition of his remarkable contributions to accountancy, business mentorship, organizational skills, and community services. The 'Freedom' award was officially presented at the Chamberlain’s Court of the City of London Guildhall on Tuesday, October 18th, 2022. Esteemed leaders of the BBCCI, journalists, and illustrious community members attended the special ceremony.
Upon receiving the 'Freedom of the City of London' award, Mr. Nurujjaman expressed heartfelt gratitude: “I humbly accept this esteemed award and dedicate it to all those I have had the privilege to serve in our wonderful community. I am confident that this award will encourage me to even further my efforts in serving my community. They continuously need inspiration, support and guidance to reach their life goals.”
Mr. Nurujjaman was born in December 1981 in Sylhet, Bangladesh. His late father, Md Nurul Islam Mati, was a senior officer at the Forest Department of Bangladesh, while his mother Nurun Nahar has always been a source of inspiration for him. At the age of 21, he moved to the United Kingdom to pursue his studies, earning a bachelors honours degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Greenwich.
In 2010, Mr. Nurujjaman founded his own accountancy firm, Taj Accountants, in Whitechapel, East London. What started as a modest operation has now evolved into a leading accountancy firm in East London. Taj Accountants has garnered numerous awards and accolades for its exceptional customer service and expertise in accountancy and taxation, in addition to its significant role in supporting various social activities in the community.
Mr. Nurujjaman was previously honoured with the AAT “Licensed Member of the Year Award” in 2017 and “the Best Small Business of the Year 2019” award by The London Asian Business Awards. He has also featured as a cover story in the industry-leading “Accounting Technician Magazine.”
The Freeman or Freedom of the City of London award is a historic accolade dating back to 1237. It recognises those who have made significant economic, cultural and social contributions to London. Other notable recipients of this honour include Prince George, Duke of Cambridge, former South African President Nelson Mandela, former British Prime Ministers Winston Churchill, Benjamin Disraeli and Margaret Thatcher, members of the British Royal family Princess Diana; Florence Nightingale; former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg; and former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, among others.
